Young Nigerian girl Little Bee’s journey will sound familiar even though she flees violence for England. The description of the violence that triggers her journey is hard to read and, for me, became more disturbing as I finished the book and thought about it long after. The author deepens and expands on Little Bee’s story, told in her own words, as her knowledge of English and British culture grows. While the story doesn’t have a neat or happy ending, it is hopeful, sometimes funny and offers a strong individual portrayal of a common refugee experience.
