He Named Me Malala, a new documentary by Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth, Waiting for Superman), opens in theaters around the country today!
The documentary is an intimate portrait of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Malala Yousafzai, who was targeted by the Taliban and severely wounded by a gunshot when returning home on her school bus in Pakistan’s Swat Valley in 2012 when she was 15 years old. Since the attack, she lives with her family in Birmingham, England and advocates for children’s access to education around the world.
He Named Me Malala follows her as she balances life as a teenager and displaced person in England with her status as a international human rights advocate and celebrity. The film gives special attention to the close relationship Malala has with her family, and especially with her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai.
